Shafter Backyard Baseball Camp Interest Form

Friends and Families:

As we near two full months of the stay at home order, we wanted to reach out and see how everyone is doing.  Understandably, some of us may be pulling our hair out.  There are uncertainties surrounding education with no clear answers in sight; also with youth sports and parks shut down, when will our kids go back to being kids again?  We aren’t here to predict the answers, but we have always prided ourselves on providing opportunities to the Shafter community.  We are still planning for the very hour we can all get back together and seeking out other means that align with the boundaries currently in place.  However, we have teamed up with Bakersfield Baseball Academy to bring a baseball/softball camp right to your own backyard! The best part, you have the chance to enroll absolutely FREE.

Students grades K-5 are invited to enroll into the camp.  The camp involves an academic portion and enrichment (the baseball/softball camp) portion.  The Summer Academic & Enrichment Program we are offering is a great opportunity to catch-up and reinforce schooling that was missed this year through Elite Academic, a tuition-free public charter school.  Students will need to complete two short workbooks that provide a review of the grade completed during the 2019-2020 school year. Participation in the academic portion provides the opportunity for us to fund the equipment and coaching for the enrichment camp. For more information on the academic program check out this video: https://vimeo.com/398942269/ef9a69c4f5

Enrollment for the program ends on May 22nd and spots in the baseball/softball camp are limited due to the need to purchase and provide equipment to each and every student athlete.  The summer session will begin on July 1st and conclude August 8th.  Each student will be assigned a credentialed teacher from Bakersfield or Shafter to provide tutoring and academic advising as they complete their workbooks.

If you have any questions, please let us know.  If you are ready to begin the enrollment process, please start by filling out this online interest form: https://forms.gle/tDLLW93a2uW77G4V7

Attention all S.R.P.D. Patrons: Office Closing 3/18/2020-4/13/2020

In response to the current COVID-19 crisis and based on guidelines from governmental authorities and the recommendations of our Board Members, Shafter Recreation & Park District has decided to close our office to customers beginning Wednesday, March 18th, 2020. The Walker Center has already been closed since March 16th.  We currently plan to extend this until April 13th, with the understanding that these dates may change depending on shifting conditions in our community and Kern county.

The health and well-being of our staff members, our customers and our community is our highest priority.  As a result, we are encouraging all staff to self-isolate, working from home.

Customers should know that we are still hoping to hold our full PONY Baseball/Softball season at a later date and we have extended on-line sign-ups for our 10U (9 and 10-year-olds) and 14U (11 through 14-year-olds) Softball and Baseball Programs through April 3rd.

We will also be available to serve you by phone, though not in person.  Please feel free to call us at 661-746-3303, if you have questions or concerns.  We will be answering the phones during our regular working hours (9-5 on Monday-Thursday and 9-3 on Friday) as much as possible and checking messages at other times.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with these emergency measures.  Please keep yourselves safe and well!  We look forward to serving you and your families with our recreation and sports programs again very soon!
