The Serve
The server is the player in the right back position and who must be standing behind the end line while executing the serve (Line will be visibly marked for participants to see). Servers are allowed only one toss or release of the ball, many of which like to bounce or toss the ball a few times before serving. However, a toss or release doesn't count until it is done with intent to serve.
Teams rotate clockwise after every serve won. Each side should contain 6 players.
- All players will be given an opportunity to serve during the match.
- Only five consecutive points can be scored from the server before possession of ball is changed to opposing team.
- The ball must be released or tossed when executing a serve.
- The server is allowed only one serve.
- An underhand or overhand serve is good. Players may serve from 10 ft in from the end line for 8U/11U division ONLY. The SRPD will supply the line and it will be marked clearly.
- Defensive: On the serve the player may receive the ball with a bump, set and overhead double fist.
- Opponents must be able to see the ball being served.
- Coin toss will determine which team will serve the ball first, on the second set, the team who didn’t serve will now serve, and then who serves first will continue to alternate each set.
- A serve that contacts the net and drops over it may count for a point.
- Serves may be returned by bumps or sets - not attacks.
- Servers may not step on, or across the service line until after the ball has been released, and this includes jump serving.
- The server may not go outside the service zone until after the ball has been released.
- Players may not block or attack a serve.
- Players may only switch positions after serves
